Texas has nearly 9.3 million households, according to the Census Bureau, but only a small fraction of them are powered by solar energy.
A recent report heralded the growth of the solar power industry in Texas which has grown 59 percent in the past year, making Texas the nation’s seventh biggest supplier of solar power, according to GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association.
But even with that double-digit growth, Texas is producing 2,000 megawatts of solar power, enough to power only 226,000 homes, according to the report. That’s about the size of El Paso.
About 8,900 Texans work in solar-related jobs, the fourth highest in the nation.
