ABOUT 100 delegates representing key players in the renewable-energy industry are meeting at Gleneagles today to discuss challenges facing the sector.
The fifth annual Infrastructure Journal Renewables Forum features keynote addresses from Greg Barker, the shadow secretary for climate change, and Department of Energy and Climate Change renewable strategy director Chris Barton.
The event brings together some of the biggest names involved in investing, developing and operating renewable energy in the UK.
Derek Weir, Barclays Commercial’s managing director for Scotland and Northern Ireland, said the conference was coming at a crucial time for the sector. He added: “The traditional methods of financing renewable-energy projects have had to change and the challenges presented require a new level of pragmatism between investors and businesses if we are to ensure that funding is deliverable and can support good and viable projects.”
The forum will explore challenges and opportunities in turbulent markets and discuss how the sector can potentially be used as a stimulant to the economy. Delegates will also debate the direction in which the industry is heading, energy targets, security of supply issues and infrastructure concerns around grid and planning constraints.
