Fast-expanding energy service company Senergy said yesterday it had appointed a former Halliburton boss as its first chief operating officer (COO).
Mike Bowyer will be responsible for leading day-to-day operations of Senergy and be based at the headquarters in Aberdeen.
The new COO has more than 35 years’ experience in the energy industry, primarily in global organisations.
He was previously country vice-president for oilfield service giant Halliburton, responsible for its UK business.
Mr Bowyer said: “Joining Senergy at such an exciting stage of its journey is a particular privilege.
“Senergy is a vibrant and forward-thinking company with a great vision and passion; not just for its people, its clients and its business but for the evolution of the energy industry. ”
Senergy chief executive James McCallum said: “Appointing a COO represents a significant milestone for Senergy, and reflects how much we have evolved in just five years. I’m delighted that someone of Mike’s calibre has joined the team as we move into an exciting new chapter of expansion on a global scale.
“For the next five years, we have set ourselves the ambitious target of increasing our turnover from £78million to £300million, and in order to achieve this it is essential that we have the right foundations in place.
“Mike’s appointment brings a wealth of experience and a different perspective to the company, and will give others, including myself, scope to continue to focus on the company’s overall growth strategy.”
Mr McCallum, who is based in the Middle East, said the COO would help to introduce a more efficient operating structure to deliver clearer accountability and faster decision making, adding: “He has worked with companies with similar growth aspirations as Senergy and has also been involved in the successful acquisition and integration of a number of companies, which will be invaluable as we continue to look for opportunities for growth through acquisition.”
Mr Bowyer’s other previous posts include managing director of PES International and general manager of well services at Baker Hughes.
Until recently, he was joint vice-chairman of industry body Oil and Gas UK.
From 2004-06, he was chairman of the UK Well Services Contractors Association and, from 2004-09, a member of the Step Change in Safety Leadership Team.
Senergy, which was set up in 2005, employs more than 450 people worldwide.
