GLOBAL Industries has taken delivery of the first of two deep-water derrick pipelay vessels from Keppel Singmarine, Singapore.
The first of the pair is the Global 1200, which was named on September 18. The vessel is in the final commissioning phase and has undergone successful sea trials prior to delivery to its American owner.
Global expects to take delivery of sister vessel Global 1201 from Keppel Singmarine in Q3 2011.
The dynamically-positioned Global 1200 is a combined derrick/pipelay vessel, and is a customised version of the Ulstein Sea of Solutions’ SOC 600 design.
The design incorporates an AmClyde single post crane on the aft and a centre firing line on the freeboard deck.
The vessel has a lifting capacity of 1,200 tonnes, 400 tonnes deep-water lowering system capacity, and is capable of operating in up to 3,000m (10,000ft) water depth.
Global 1200 is propelled by two 4,500kW thrusters providing a trial speed of 15 knots. Combined with the five retractable thrusters of 2,400kW each and an 880kW tunnel thruster the vessel is classed DPII. However, generator room and switchboard lay-outs meet DPIII requirements to provide additional redundancy.
The new-build measures 162.3m overall, with length between perpendiculars of 153.4m, breadth (moulded) of 37.8m, depth (moulded) of 16.1m, and draft (design) of 6.3m. The vessel’s total installed power is three 4,230kW and three x 3,760kW diesel packs arranged power station style.
Houston-headquartered Global Industries is a major solutions provider of offshore construction, engineering, project management and support services including pipeline construction, platform installation and removal, deepwater/SURF installations, IRM (inspection, repair and maintenance), and diving to the oil & gas industry worldwide.
The company currently operates a fleet of 17 vessels worldwide.
