HEEREMA Marine Contractors has signed a contract with offshore pile driving specialist Menck, for the construction of a 3500kN (kilo-Newtons) hydraulic underwater hammer.
Heerema said the new hammer, the MHU-3500S, will be the world’s largest and heaviest.
It said that, at 25m in length and with a 192-tonne head delivering 3,500kJ (kilo-Joules) of energy, the hammer will be able to drive piles to a depth of 500m in the toughest of seafloor conditions.
