Port of Dundee
The Port of Dundee is involved in a diverse range of port activities from bulk and general cargo transportation to vessel repair and offshore wind projects.
The port has invested in its quayside and infrastructure and built strong alliances with expert organisations as it prepares for the anticipated decommissioning of offshore North Sea vessels and assets.
Through the multimillion-pound private investment, the port can now provide a comprehensive and complete decommissioning service with on-site craneage, office and staff facilities, skilled specialist labour and expert logistical support.
North Sea Decom
Large jack-up rigs are a common sight along the quayside at Dundee, often berthing at the port for maintenance and upgrade works.
Due to the size and scale of many oil and gas vessels, vast areas of space are required for laydown and storage purposes.
In Dundee, the port has 60 acres of space suitable for the decommissioning of all types of North Sea vessel.
Quayside Developments
The port has recently completed a £10 million private investment in the strengthening and lengthening of the Prince Charles Wharf.
It is over 300 metres long, has a deep-water berth at 9.5 metres and a heavy lift area with an 80-tonne-per square metre capacity. The port can also handle a diverse range of decommissioning works.
World Class Facilities
As part of the Prince Charles Wharf development, key decommissioning partner OM Heavy Lift (a division of OilMac) has installed a new quayside crane with lifting capabilities of up to 1,500 tonnes.
OM Heavy Lift, with its oil and gas expertise, focuses on environmentally-conscious decommissioning and recycling works, using its skills, knowledge and equipment. OM’s crane is the largest quayside crane in the UK, meaning it can mobilise or demobilise equipment from vessels and barges without the need for a significant notice period.
Equipment which has been on the seabed for a long period of
time must be treated with expert care.
Augean North Sea Services ensures the safe decontamination of potentially hazardous equip-ment which has been at sub-sea level.
Augean is currently developing its on-site facility which will become the largest indoor decommissioning facility in Europe with the capability to decontaminate equipment which has been subjected to a lifetime of production.
Planning for the Future
Dundee is focused on delivering unrivalled NSO decommissioning services in the UK.
only seven miles from the North Sea, and with recent quayside investment and secured partnerships, the port offers a complete decommissioning service.
