Aberdeen-based oil and gas explorer Faroe Petroleum said today drilling had started on the T-Rex discovery in the Norwegian North Sea.
Maersk will drill the well using the Transocean Winner drilling rig and work is expected to be completed early in the New Year.
The T-Rex licence was awarded to Faroe in the Norwegian Awards in Predefined Areas 2006 Licensing Round.
Faroe is 30%-owner of the field, which is operated by 70%-owner Maersk Oil.
Graham Stewart, Faroe’s chief executive, said T-Rex was the second of the firm’s three 2011 Norwegian exploration wells.
Drilling continues on the Centrica-operated Butch prospect, in which Faroe has a 15% stake.
Mr Stewart added: “The Norwegian Kalvklumpen exploration well is also expected to spud in December, making this a particularly exciting period in our exploration programme.”
