The Rowan Stavanger jack-up rig has won a £17.7million contract for drilling work at Equinor’s Gurdrun field.
The deal, for an initial five months, will see the rig drill two wells at the field, plus five options to extend which are not included in the initial contract value.
Equinor has signed a framework agreement with Rowan Norway, giving the operator exclusive rights to the rig, if it is kept in continuous operation, up until 2025.
The contract is expected to begin in the third quarter of next year.
Rowan Stavanger is currently in use at the Yme field for accommodations and platform support work for Repsol in Norway.
The Gudrun oil and gas field in the Norwegian North Sea holds an estimated 184million barrels of oil equivalent.
Geir Tungesvik, senior vice president for Equinor’s drilling & well cluster, said: “We are pleased to establish an agreement with a rig supplier that is new to us as operator on the Norwegian continental shelf. Rowan is a large worldwide supplier of jack-up rigs.
“We want to have a long-term cooperation with Rowan and have therefore signed a framework agreement with them.”
