The winning design has been unveiled for next year’s Offshore Achievement Awards trophy.
Pupils at Gray’s School of Art at the Robert Gordon University have been working on their concepts since September.
Judges deliberated for almost an hour before picking the design by Laurencekirk-based Finlay Rintoul.
The prestigious awards are organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Aberdeen branch.
Chairman Ian Phillips said: “This year we have seen the highest standard of designs ever. We have never spent so long trying to choose between some really impressive designs. We hope all the designers recognise how close the competition was.
“They were all worthy winners, but in the end, Finlay had the overall vote of the judges by the narrowest of margins.”
Nominations for the awards are open until Friday 16 November, ahead of the ceremony at the AECC on March 14 next year.
Sian Mutch from operator Taqa, its principal sponsor, said: “We are invested in making links between industry and education and the award design competition provides the chance to develop and celebrate that. The competition offers design students an opportunity to engage with the energy sector, which may not otherwise arise.
“The designs were all so different and you could tell they had put in a lot of time into researching and understanding the oil and gas and renewable industries, in order to create their pieces. We are very impressed with the work put in by them this year.”
