A TWO-YEAR multimillion-pound project to refurbish Marathon Oil’s North Sea headquarters in Aberdeen has been completed – without staff missing a day at the office.
Space Solutions was tasked to redesign and refurbish Marathon’s five-storey office, which houses 460 staff, with the main condition being that employees had to be able to keep working throughout the revamp.
The Aberdeen company was brought in because of its expertise in multiple disciplines, including architecture, space planning, interior design, quantity surveying, project and contract management and relocation.
Teams from every division of Space Solutions were involved in the turnkey project, which was led by Space Solutions’ architect and associate Jonathan Wisely.
He said: “When Marathon came to us, they were very clear that business continuity was essential.
“This is something we are very used to as we often work within occupied space, and all our clients are keen to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.
“There were a clear set of challenges – we couldn’t just shut off the power and supplies as there had to still be electricity and water.
“We also had to be mindful of the impact of the equipment we were using for health and safety purposes – we had to ensure it wasn’t too loud or dangerous with people still working.
“The only disruption staff had was having to put their personal items in a box one day and, when they came back to work the next, the items had been moved to their new desks, with computers and everything ready to go.”
