BP SAID yesterday it was forced to deal with another incident on the same North Sea oil platform that was shut down by a fire in July.
The firm had a “well-control issue” on the Valhall in Norwegian waters on August 19, just over a month after a fire led to the evacuation of hundreds of workers.
A BP spokesman said: “There was a well-control issue on the Valhall field which was quickly controlled and reported to the regulator, as per normal industry practice.
“The issue was caused by a mechanical problem with the casing hanger, which is in the process of being repaired.”
BP said it expected operations on the installation to resume by the middle of this month.
The field was producing about 42,000 barrels a day at the time of the fire on July 13.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed in Russia that bailiffs had raided BP’s offices in Moscow.
The raid was related to a lawsuit arising from the collapsed deal between BP and Rosneft and filed by shareholders in BP’s Russian joint venture, TNK-BP.
