Scottish operator Cairn Energy has been met with disappointment in Norway as an exploration well has come up dry.
The Lynghaug well, around four miles from Equinor’s Norne field, found no trace of oil when it was drilled by the Transocean Arctic rig.
Despite 50metres of sandstone being deemed to contain “very good reservoir quality”, there were no traces of oil in the well.
It has being plugged and abandoned.
The rig is now moving on to Cairn’s Godalen prospect in the PL842 licence in the Norwegian Sea.
Godalen, around eight miles east of Norne, is targeting around 90million barrels of oil equivalent according to pre-drill estimates.
