BAKER Hughes has carried off the 2009 ICoTA Innovation Award for a live well deployment system for sand screens.
This technology, marketed as SnapScreen, is the first live well deployment system that has a flow path through the connector, allowing the well to be produced immediately following the fitting of a sand screen completion.
According to Baker and IcoTA, the main benefit it offers is the ease of use of the system, allowing a well to be put back on production far more quickly than would be the case if a full workover was undertaken.
This year, Baker was up against a strong field of contenders, including:
BJ Services – capillary CT applications and Injectsafe valve system.
WellTec – sand removal with electric-line-tractor conveyed technology.
Schlumberger – live coiled-tubing intervention.
Red Spider Technology – hRED and eRED, which contributed to BP record-breaking completion performance West of Shetland.
Welltec – world’s first wireline nipple profile removal performed.
NOV/ASEP – CoilTruck – mobile coil-tubing unit.
Swellfix – SwellRING – swelling O rings.
Entries were judged by the committee of ICoTA European Chapter and a representative of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Aberdeen section.
