Later this month OGUK and Deloitte will co-host the launch of the 2019 UKCS Supply Chain Collaboration Survey: “From strategy to action –overcoming barriers to change.”
In 2019 the Collaboration Survey turns five, so it’s a good time to reflect on our progress since it was first published. The first survey report followed close on the heels of the Wood Review which identified collaboration across our offshore oil and gas sector as a fundamental behaviour in securing the successful future of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).
Efficiency is the foundation stone for a more sustainable and resilient oil and gas industry. It means finding smarter ways of working for the benefit of the sector as a whole. Since 2015, when OGUK established the Efficiency Task Force (ETF), we’ve been working in partnership with the industry to research and develop best practice, standardise and simplify solutions, and encourage cultural change.
The ETF has maintained a steady focus on three areas: business processes, standardisation as well as culture and behaviours. Building on these foundations, we’re helping the industry become more effective, successfully reducing operational expenditure across the basin by 16% so far since 2015.
Embracing change is key to innovation. Gandhi had it right – be the change you want to see in the world, and change starts with not being afraid of innovating.
Our online efficiency hub is the gateway to initiatives that aim to improve efficiency across the UKCS. It’s a one-stop shop for all things efficiency: information, news, case studies, industry initiatives and how you can get involved.
There are great examples of companies improving performance and reducing unnecessary costs. Sharing and learning is at the heart of what we do – it’s about collaboration to deliver collective success.
One of the most frustrating and exciting things about continuous improvement is that the job is never done. We must continually focus on learning lessons, engaging with others and driving forward doing the best we can with the tools we have.
New challenges are ahead, the pace of change is accelerating and we’re entering a dynamic landscape where digitalisation will play a big part. We don’t know what this looks like yet. Yet, we do know that there is huge value in sharing knowledge and success stories as we need to drive the momentum forward.
