Scottish expertise has huge potential for penetrating North America’s flourishing green-energy market, Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (Areg) told members yesterday.
The public-private partnership hosted a seminar in the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre focusing on offshore renewables opportunities across the Atlantic.
Delegates were given an overview of potential offshore wind, wave and tidal developments in the US and Canada plus advice on entering the market, in advance of a Scottish Development International-led mission to a major windpower conference in Dallas in May.
Areg international trade executive Sarah Hillyear said: “No offshore-wind projects have been built in the US as yet and it is anticipated developers will look to Scotland for its vital offshore expertise. This is a huge market, with significant opportunities for Aberdeen city and shire to capitalise on.
“With the largest concentration of upstream offshore oil and gas capabilities in the world outwith Houston, the region is uniquely positioned, and has the necessary expertise and know-how to help bring these projects to fruition.”
The seminar also featured an industry overview by Andrew Reid, the managing director of energy consultant Douglas-Westwood, and a presentation on Wood Group’s experience of doing business in the US.
