OIL and gas skills and training body Opito is on the hunt for people from the industry to help to recruit the next generation of energy workers.
It is organising a speed-networking session to introduce young people to the diversity of careers in the industry.
Your Journey, being held on the Thursday of Offshore Europe week, will bring together university students and those working in the industry to help tell school pupils about the careers, roles and experiences on offer.
Opito skill-development director Mike Duncan said: “It is vital that we continue to attract the next generation of talent that this industry needs. The perception among many pupils and guidance staff is that the industry is all about engineering and working offshore.
“Your Journey seeks to inform pupils about life and careers in the oil and gas industry. As well as helping showcase the diversity of careers, it helps school pupils see where their interests and school subjects fit in an industry context.
“It provides the opportunity for the next generation of talent to hear first-hand about what inspired people to join the industry, their experiences while studying and their route into oil and gas.
“To give a real representation of the scope of careers within the industry, Opito wants to hear from professionals across all disciplines of industry.”
Your Journey is part of Energise Your Future at Offshore Europe, Opito’s flagship career event, in which 250 north-east pupils will go on an interactive journey through the show at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. It will be held at Pittodrie Stadium on the morning of September 8. Contact Diane Johnston on 01224 787805 or e-mail diane.johnston@opito.com
