The exploration director of Scottish oil and gas company Cairn Energy has been in Greenland for a signing ceremony for two oil and gas exploration blocks offshore southern Greenland.
Mike Watts said in a speech at the event that Greenland was a true frontier country and the oil and gas exploration industry was at an embryonic stage.
He added: “There are many technical, operational and environmental challenges ahead, yet the available evidence suggests that the offshore contains the geological ingredients necessary for finding hydrocarbons.
“In essence, we are here today because we both recognise and believe in the potential of Greenland, and Cairn wants to play an active and catalytic role.”
