Scottish utility SSE said today power capacity at its onshore wind farm projects had exceeded a combined 1 gigawatt (GW) for the first time.
The Perth-based energy supplier said more than 300 megawatts (MW) of capacity had been added to its portfolio in the first nine months of the current financial year thanks to progress at sites including Clyde, Griffin and Gordonbush in Scotland.
SSE added its onshore wind capacity had also exceeded its hydroelectric capability of 1.15GW for the first time.
SSE chief executive Ian Marchant said: “The safe and timely delivery of new assets is a key priority for SSE and passing the 1GW milestone for onshore wind farm capacity is a very positive development as we start the new year.
“With construction work continuing at sites in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, we expect that our operating onshore wind farm capacity will continue to grow significantly in the coming months.”
