A specialist electrical services company has opened a new headquarters in Great Yarmouth to cope with increased demand and to chase opportunities in the onshore and offshore energy sectors.
Sims Systems supplies and services navigation aids to the oil and gas industry as well as standby and emergency power systems to the same operators and other major clients across the UK.
But the firm, based in Lowestoft and turning over £3million, is also now eyeing business in the offshore wind sector.
Through its parent company, Pharos Marine Group, which bought the business in 2003, it has invested heavily in establishing the new base in Riverside, Gorleston, to create more workshop and office space.
Managing director Owen James said: “We outgrew our previous site in Lowestoft where we were working to capacity. Now we have vastly increased space we can pursue new business and are strategically placed at the heart of what is the hub of the energy industry.
“We are seeing a massive opportunity in offshore wind where every turbine will need warning lights, fog signals and other electronic safety aids that directly match our portfolio of products and services.”
The business started about 30 years ago and now employs 21 people.
Mr James said the firm worked for companies including RWE npower, EDF Energy and E.ON for our standby power systems in the energy market.
It also provides back-up electrical power system services for Lloyds TSB and Sainsbury’s.
Through a new partnership with Italian explosion proof enclosure company FEAM, Sims has started to provide complete electrical control stations.
