Subsea 7 said yesterday it had been awarded a major engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning pipeline contract by Total E&P UK.
The oil and gas industry engineering and construction company added that it was continuing to recruit more workers in the north-east and north. The contract is for Total’s Laggan Tormore deepwater gas field development, west of Shetland, and is valued in excess of £158million. This takes the value of contracts announced by Subsea 7 since May for its Scottish business to around £350million.
The company announced in July that it was to recruit more than 200 people following contract wins and to cater for expected wins. Around 150 will be recruited for its fabrication yard at Wester, near Wick, and others for its engineering operations at Westhill, near Aberdeen, adding to the 1,000 employed in Scotland. A spokesman said yesterday that around half of the newcomers had already joined the company, with more to follow.
Subsea 7’s principal scope of work for Total comprises the engineering, fabrication and installation of 87 miles of service pipelines and the engineering, supply and installation of 77-mile and 10-mile control umbilicals and associated subsea structures and tie-ins.
Steph McNeill, Subsea 7’s vice-president UK, said: “I am delighted that Subsea 7 has been awarded this significant pipelay contract for Total’s Laggan Tormore gas field development. The award reflects on our engineering, project management, procurement, fabrication and offshore execution capabilities and expertise, especially our proven track record of working with Total on major pipelay projects in the North Sea and in the challenging deepwater west of Shetland area.”
Project management and engineering work has already begun at Subsea 7’s Westhill offices.
