More than 450 members of the Scottish offshore wind supply attended an event held by EDF Renewables at Aberdeen FC’s Pittodrie Stadium yesterday.
Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Farm, owned jointly by EDF Renewables UK and Irish firm ESB, has held a number of events in the hope of attracting local supply chain firms.
It had held events in East Lothian, Fife and Dundee before yesterday’s Aberdeen meeting.
The encounter was an opportunity for supply chain firms to meet Tier 1 contractors, such as Italian firm Saipem.
NnG wind farm, a 54-turbine projects, is due to begin offshore construction in June 2020.
It is is planned for completion in 2023.
Located off Scotland’s east coast, it was awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) in 2015 and will look to generate enough energy to power 375,000 homes.
It is expected to create around 500 jobs while also delivering £540million to the local economy.
Matthias Haag, NnG project director, said: “This week’s events have been a resounding success and I’m really encouraged to have seen so many of the Scottish supply chain taking the time to attend.
“It was also extremely useful for our Tier 1 contractors, who could hear first-hand about the experience and capabilities available in the Scottish supply chain.
“We’ve said from the start that we’re committed to making sure Scotland benefits as much as possible from this project – these events are evidence of this.”
