A popular annual business event which explores business opportunities in America’s fourth most populous city is to go ahead – in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The eighth annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway had originally been due to take place in its traditional format at the end of March and organisers Granite PR have just announced that it will go ahead in May, in spite of the health crisis – by embracing technology and adopting an all-new digital format.
Replacing the traditional visits, meetings and showcase lunch with speakers in Aberdeen will be a series of free podcasts, webinars and online discussions which will be aired during week commencing May 4th, giving a unique opportunity for delegates to come together and do business in a virtual way.
Linking the North East of Scotland with the energy capital of the world, the annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway has become a much-anticipated fixture on the business calendar since it was first held in 2013. This year, the Granite PR-hosted event will be held in association with the Greater Houston Partnership and G-Tech Innovation Centre supported by the Energy Industries Council (EIC) and Scottish Development International (SDI).
Commenting on the new shape of the Aberdeen-Houston Gateway, Granite PR Founder and MD Brett Jackson said: “When I set out to deliver the first Gateway in 2013, I wanted to establish an international platform for knowledge sharing and, over the years, that has evolved from live links between Aberdeen and Houston in the early days to the presence of Houston business representatives in Aberdeen during more recent Gateway weeks.
“The event has never stood still and its evolution has been motivated by many factors – this year circumstances have led us to embrace new digital opportunities in an exciting, accelerated way. We are indebted to our sponsors who have jumped on board the new format and we are very grateful to them for their support as we bring this new concept to fruition.”
Andy Grieve of G-Tech Innovation Centre said: “The world has changed and we have to adapt, unless we can afford to hibernate, so Granite PR is proving that there’s a way. Business must go on and tough times inspire the most creativity so I am looking forward to participating in the new format.”
Greater Houston Partnership Senior Director Europe, Middle East & Africa Jeffrey Blair added: “I am thrilled that the Gateway event will take place this year. My goals every year are to update the Gateway participants as to what is going on in Houston in the area of business and innovation as well as networking with local businesses and government officials. Using this digital format will allow me to accomplish nearly all of these goals.”
The Aberdeen-Houston Gateway is supported by Caxton FX, The British Consulate-General Houston, The Energy Industries Council, The Greater Houston Partnership, The Houston-Grampian Association, The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, G-Tech Innovation Centre, Keller Williams, McGill & Associates, Scottish Development International, Traveleads, Ziyen.
