Operator Det Norske’s exploration well on the Kalvklumpen prospect is to be abandoned after finding “good quality” reservoir rocks, but no oil or gas.
The prospect, in the central Norwegian North Sea, 20% owned by Aberdeen-based Faroe Petroleum, was drilled by the Songa Delta to a depth of 8,982ft.
Graham Stewart, chief executive of Faroe, said: “Whilst the results for the Kavlklumpen well are disappointing, the extensive data acquired will be now be applied to evaluate and de-risk further prospects within this and the adjacent licences held by the company in this prospective area.”
These are the PL627 Shango, PL414B Oksen and PL507 Tetrao/Knorke licences.
Partners on Kalvklumpen licence are Det Norske Oljeselskap, operator with 40% ownership, Noreco 20%, Faroe 20% and Bayerngas 20%.
