Production was shut down at a North Sea platform today after a toxic gas leak.
The Stafjord C installation was nearly evacuated after a leak of the poisonous and flammable gas hydrogen sulphide.
All 236 crew on the platform on the Norwegian continental shelf boarded emergency lifeboats but they were not launched, according to operator Statoil, who said it had controlled the leak.
The company said it had shut down Statfjord C, which produces 25,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, but that the other two installations at the Statfjord field were still operational.
