An Aberdeen-based engineering company has announced a change of name hot on the heels of it winning lucrative new work overseas.
Rigfit7Seas is now called Modutec, whose managing director, Brian Knowles said: “The Rigfit and Seven Seas brands were formed to address particular aspects of the market, but their heritage misplaces the offering of the company today.
“By adopting the new brand, we hope to better explain the depth of our offering to customers.
“This includes fully engineered modular solutions for hazardous areas, living quarter design and build, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) engineering and architectural safety solutions.”
Known locally for engineering and refurbishing living quarters on North Sea installations, the company reacted to the 2014 downturn by shifting its focus to international markets.
It now has more than 500 staff and is mostly engaged in the engineering, construction and retrofit of living accommodation, equipment rooms and utility modules.
The firm has operations across Europe, the Middle East and Caspian – and recently celebrated contract awards worth £25 million for technical buildings and living quarters in Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia.
It hopes to regrow its presence in the UK following the completion of a major upgrade to the Well-Safe Guardian, the mobile offshore drilling unit owned by Aberdeen-based decommissioning specialist Well-Safe Solutions.
Mr Knowles added: “Our Aberdeen-based operation has been busy re-establishing the company in the past 24 months.
“The acquisition of Avantis (a marine compliance services firm) earlier this month will also form part of the new Modutec company, and enhance our UK-based engineering capacity significantly.
“Adding an energy performance and environmental technologies company will be a crucial part of our proposition going forward.”
The firm is among the portfolio companies of Inverness-headquartered Envoy and Partners,
It is adopting the Modutec brand across all its regional offices in the UK and abroad. Wales-based Avantis will remain a specialist division and retain its brand.
