Maersk Drilling has signed a new contract with Centrica worth at least $60million and which fills its available rig capacity in Norway until Q2 2014.
The Danish company said demand for ultra harsh environment rigs keeps growing while rig supply remains tight. It said that this contract for its harsh environment Maersk Giant jack-up drilling rig covers the drilling of two or three wells with an estimated duration of 170-210 days at a day rate of $350,000.
The contract is due to start Q4 2013.
Maersk Drilling owns and operates six of the nine jack-up rigs currently in Norway.
