Offshore workers are to gather for a union conference amid continuing concerns over safety and pay.
Worries over employees’ safety are expected to feature high on the agenda as activists from the offshore branch of the maritime and transport union RMT meet at the Apex Hotel at Dundee’s City Quay on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The gathering comes less than two weeks after Bond Offshore Super Puma helicopters were grounded following the ditching of one of their aircraft 30 miles off the coast of Aberdeen.
Concerns are also still rife about the North Sea’s Elgin platform gas leak, which was plugged only three days ago.
Growing unrest over pay, job security and paid leave is also expected to generate discussion, with the RMT engaged in a ballot for industrial action among offshore catering staff.
RMT offshore industry organiser Jake Molloy said: “This meeting will give us a strategy which the members advocate we adopt.”
General secretary Bob Crow said: “This will give us a perfect opportunity to address issues that have been dominating the headlines on safety and security.”
