Global skills body Opito said yesterday there was an improved focus on apprenticeship schemes as a gateway for the next generation of employees entering the oil and gas industry.
Research commissioned by Opito and conducted by Robert Gordon University revealed that more than 69% of oil and gas companies have an apprenticeship scheme in place or are planning on launching a programme in the next two years.
More than 80% of apprentices and trainees who completed a scheme over the last three years went on to be recruited by the company.
Meanwhile, details of the third annual Opito safety and competence conference in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, November 20, were released yesterday.
This year’s theme is managing the safety chain and the event will explore how the oil and gas supply chain could pull together to deliver effective management of a safe and competent workforce.
