Councillors will be asked tomorrow to back proposals to expand a windfarm in Wester Ross.
Infinergy has applied to Highland Council’s north planning committee for permission to add six 410ft masts to its Erica development at Lochluichart.
The 17-turbine scheme was given planning permission by the Scottish Government in 2008.
A report prepared for tomorrow’s committee meeting says the local authority has received 27 letters of support for the latest proposals, and 17 objections.
Those opposed to the extension are worried it will have an adverse impact on tourism and on protected species such as the golden eagle and osprey. They also claim it is “against community wishes”.
Supporters said they were in favour of local employment and investment and claimed there would be no adverse impact on the area.
The report says: “It can be concluded that the proposals would not have a significant detrimental impact.”
Members of the planning committee will also be asked to consider an application for a community windfarm at Gaultiquoy, Rumster Forest, Lybster.
Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Development Company wants to build three 262ft turbines.
Opponents claim it will cause visual intrusion, and have an impact on recreation, including horse riding and walking.
