Schools from the Highlands have romped home with a clutch of awards from this year’s Junior Saltire Prize.
The 2012 Junior Saltire Awards invited children in primary and secondary schools to come up with wave energy devices to match those being developed on Orkney.
Winning their categories were S1/S3 winner Alness Academy and S4/S6 winner Ullapool High School.
Picking up a highly-commended award was Grantown Grammar, also from the Highlands, and Olnafirth Primary, from Shetland.
The prizes were awarded at this year’s annual Celebration of Engineering and Science event, in Glasgow.
The event drew more than 600 Scottish young engineers, scientists, teachers and companies.
Other awards given out on the day were:

Dr Swanston Memorial Prize for Best Individual Achievement, David McKinnon, Johnshaven Primary, Aberdeenshire; Hydrocarbons in Action Winner, Hopeman Primary; LRET Club Leader Award, Brian Dziennik, Kingussie High School; Eco Schools Secondary Highly Commended, Hazlehead Academy, Aberdeen.
