Iman Hill, an industry veteran of 30 years, has replaced Gordon Ballard as executive director of the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP).
Ms Hill, formerly head of Shell’s operations in Egypt, has also held leadership roles with BP, Energean and BG Group, among others over the course of her career.
She takes the top job at the international trade body today ahead of Gordon Ballard stepping down at the end of 2020 after five years in the role.
It comes as IOGP members, who produce 40% of the world’s oil and gas, tackle the dual challenges of net zero and Covid.
Ms Hill said they have a “key role in mitigating emissions and achieving the Paris Agreement goals”, while continuing to produce hydrocarbons.
“These are extraordinary times for our industry, but I firmly believe that we have the right values, mindset and the right people not only to get through the current crisis but to strengthen our role in the future energy landscape”, she added.
“Innovation and digitalisation will be key enablers to achieve this, and IOGP will continue to drive and support these developments.”
Mr Ballard, a 30-year veteran of Schlumberger, became executive director in 2015, having also chaired groups like Opito and Oil and Gas UK.
IOGP chair Fawaz Bitar praised him on safety and facilitating collaboration among members during his tenure at IOGP.
He said: “On behalf of IOGP’s members I would like to thank Gordon for his remarkable achievements and for his commitment and passion for our industry.”
Remarking on his time, Mr Ballard said: “I’m incredibly thankful for my time with the Association. It has been an exciting and fulfilling journey and I particularly enjoyed working with such a qualified and diverse team.
Iman is a great leader and brings all it needs to take IOGP’s work to the next level.
“I am delighted to be handing over the reins to such an exceptional industry colleague.”
