Sir Ian Wood said yesterday that the Committee on Climate Change’s new roadmap for hitting net-zero over the next three decades underlined the need for an Energy Transition Zone in Aberdeen.
The veteran north-east entrepreneur and Opportunity North East chairman said: “A fundamental shift in how we produce and use energy is essential to deliver this plan and the north-east of Scotland, with its incredible natural resources and world-class energy supply chain, is uniquely placed to accelerate the transition.
“Aberdeen’s proposed Energy Transition Zone will provide the critical infrastructure needed for this low carbon activity.
“It will be home to leading-edge innovation and manufacturing for offshore wind, hydrogen and carbon capture and storage activities, creating an environment for the energy supply chain to diversify into new markets.”
