Total has started drilling on the Norwegian North Sea Garantiana prospect, part-owned by Aberdeen-based Bridge Energy.
Garantiana is being drilled by the Borgland Dolphin semisubmersible drilling rig.
It is estimated to contain 18million barrels of oil for Bridge, which has a 20% stake in the well.
Total, the operator, has 40% with Det Norske holding 20% and Svenska Petroleum 20%.
Bridge Energy’s chief executive Tom Reynolds said: “The Garantiana well is first in a programme of four wells which Bridge expects to drill before the end of the current year.
“Taken together, the targets have the potential to add significant resources to Bridge and we look forward to the well results over the next few months.”
