The head of energy firm Centrica’s oil and gas arm has urged North Sea companies to work more closely together to get the most out of the region.
Jonathan Roger, managing director of Centrica Energy Upstream, added the sector had to invest in infrastructure and hold off on decommissioning to buy crucial time and extend the life of the UK’s oil and gas industry. He was speaking before an Oil and Gas UK business briefing today, when he will be among industry leaders giving presentations to about 360 people at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Meanwhile, OGUK says confidence among UK oil and gas firms is at its highest in nearly three years.
The trade body’s latest quarterly business confidence index has reached its highest point since it began in December 2009.
OGUK said although the overall index rose by only one point in the second quarter, it hit 65 on a 100-point scale on the back of a boost in operator optimism. It added that contractors’ outlook on the market remained unchanged amid concerns about manpower, cost inflation and margins.
