In January 2021, OGUK and Deloitte will launch the latest edition of the UKCS upstream supply chain collaboration review and index. The index is developed from supply chain and operator company feedback and provides an understanding of how effectively industry is working together in what continues to be challenging times for us all.
Our industry has shown remarkable resilience during a year of unprecedented challenge. Despite the circumstances, we continue to provide a secure and affordable supply of energy to the UK throughout the pandemic, thanks to the skills of our essential workers and the rigorous measures we implemented to keep them safe. We came together to successfully remain operational, showing true examples of collaboration across the board. The pandemic showed how operators and supply chain can really pull together – we must take the best of this and build on it if we are to unlock the full potential of the UK North Sea and ensure a successful energy transition. We need to re-energise collaboration.
COVID-19 has shown us some great examples of how quickly we can adapt at scale to embrace new ways of working, giving some technologies a real boost. As an industry we are using innovative technology to work across virtual reality digital platforms to increase efficiency and leave outdated attitudes behind. We are open to change and are able to improve our way of working which can be translated into collaborative partnerships – and OGUK’s Supply Chain Principles have a key role in making that happen.
Launched in 2018, the OGUK Supply Chain Principles, developed by our members and endorsed by our Board, outline what good practice looks like. They provide a framework to increase effectiveness and efficiency to help improve industry performance, eliminate unnecessary costs, add value, and boost competitiveness. We redesigned the questions in our 2020 Collaboration survey to understand how well these Principles have been embraced since we launched them.
We will hear the insights from our data at Deloitte and OGUK’s joint virtual launch of the 2020 survey on January 28. We have a unique opportunity to harness this information to learn from industry and drive improvements in 2021 and beyond. At our launch event, OGUK will outline the plan to sustain the sector, while ensuring it transforms and readies itself to seize the all-energy opportunity.
This can only be done if we have a more collaborative culture – enhancing this is key to maximizing the potential of the existing supply chain, to strengthening our resilience and unlocking future developments, and to ensuring our success in the transition to a net zero future.
Collaboration needs to be part of our DNA.
