Shell has filed a lawsuit against Greenpeace in an Amsterdam court to prevent the organisation from protesting the company’s drilling operations offshore Alaska in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas.
Shell’s lawyers said the action is to protect the company’s $4.5billion Arctic exploration programme and that it is intended to keep Greenpeace from holding demonstrations against the operation within 500m of any Shell property or face a fine of $1.3million. A ruling is expected early this month.
