Independent North Sea oil and gas producer EnQuest marked a major safety milestone yesterday.
It said drilling operations from its northern North Sea Thistle platform had reached five years without a lost-time incident. This was during a period of high operational activity, including restarting drilling from Thistle to drill wells for the first time in 20 years.
David Heslop, general manager at EnQuest, said: “EnQuest’s principal aim is to deliver safe results, and this is a great example of how collaboration underpinned by a robust safety culture can achieve exceptional performance safely. Over 1million man hours have been worked during the five years without a lost-time incident, which is an outstanding achievement under any circumstances but particularly given the challenges our team has faced in bringing Thistle drilling back online.”
Drilling off Thistle has been supported by a KCA Deutag and an Aker Solutions well services crew, plus other offshore contractors. The platform is undergoing modifications and upgrades as part of a programme to extend the life of mature fields. EnQuest employs more than 280 people in Aberdeen and about 1,000 indirectly and directly offshore.
