More than 300 pupils from across the north-east gathered yesterday to find out about the range of careers in the oil and gas industry.
Oil and gas skill-development body Opito held the Energise Your Future careers fair at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre to encourage more young people to consider a life in the energy sector.
More than 30 firms were at the event and each provided activities for the senior school pupils to try out, including a remotely operated vessel simulator and a fast rescue boat. Adults considering a career in the industry also visited the fair.
Opito managing director Larraine Boorman said: “Energise Your Future is a fantastic way for people of all ages and backgrounds to see that, no matter what field is of interest to them, there is a long-lasting and rewarding career open to them in the oil and gas sector. By engaging with these young people in an interactive way outwith the confines of standard lessons, we can open their eyes to the opportunities available in the industry and help them develop the general skills that will help set them on the road to future success.”
