North-east energy service firm Red Spider said yesterday it had landed a contract in west Africa worth more than £600,000.
As part of the three-year agreement, Red Spider will supply and service eRED tools for Total’s Anguille field in Gabon.
Red Spider said eRED was its first tool to use its patented remote open-close technology for operating downhole valves remotely.
The Westhill firm added that, to date, the tool had successfully completed 100-plus operations with more than 20 operators.
The Total work will involve Red Spider providing 12 eREDs; two being deployed on each of six wells.
Red Spider Africa sales manager Barry Killoh said: “The eRED is a very popular tool due to the time and money saving benefits it provides. Securing this job with a new client for the company in the west Africa region is testament to the quality of Red Spider’s technology and level of service we provide.
“We are currently in discussions with a number of other oil and gas majors about future work in Nigeria and we hope to further expand Red Spider’s presence in Africa.”
