Chevron has successfully cleaned up an oil spill from one of its pipes, at the Dumai Port in Riau, Indonesia, that is used to ship hydrocarbons from its Rokan Block.
The spill reported by Energy Voice yesterday has been “successfully gathered and cleaned 99% of oil spill in Chevron’s Dumai Wharf #4,” the U.S. major said in a statement.
The oil spill, which is estimated at 8.4 barrels, was due to a pipeline leak in the wharf on 27 February, added the company.
During the incident, the pipe in Dumai wharf was not in operation. Chevron said it “immediately fixed the pipe leak and placed oil boom to avoid further spread and take necessary actions to isolate and gather the spill.”
Indonesian upstream regulator SKKMigas said “based on our monitoring there has been 8.4 barrel of oil spill. SKK Migas was contacted last Saturday, and Chevron responsively implement safety procedures that emphasize the protection of society and the environment.”
