2012 has been a buoyant year for Peterson SBS in Shetland. The strong performance has been the result of providing clients with a range of added value logistics services to support the increased West of Shetland activity and other subsea projects. Further increases in demand are expected next year and in line with this, the company is doubling its property and storage capacity. Plans are also in place to extend decommissioning services at the Greenhead Base in Lerwick, making it one of the largest fit-for-purpose decommissioning facilities in Europe.
Ann Hunter, Divisional Operations Manager at Peterson SBS says, “Major contracts in the subsea sector have contributed to an uplift in demand for our services, resulting in 2012 being a successful year so far.
“Working in partnership with our clients in the upstream oil and gas sector, our aim is to provide them with logistics support and solutions which are tailored in accordance with their needs and delivered at an operational level. This approach has led to the successful delivery of large-scale projects and our capabilities include onshore project support, cargo handling, open storage and warehousing, agency and shipping services and local crane and transport services.
“We forecasted a greater requirement for property and storage capacity within our base, due to major North Sea projects taking place around Shetland and to accommodate this, we more than doubled the amount of space available. Work which is underway in West Shetland has contributed to an increase in our fuel throughput figures and this is set to rise further with activities taking place into 2013.
“Delivery of significant projects within the decommissioning market provided a solid foundation for 2012, and this will be key driver for further growth in the future. Our investment in increasing our facilities at Greenhead underlines the importance of this sector to the business and Shetland as a whole.
“Craneage has been exceptionally busy during 2012 and we have already invested in new equipment to extend our capabilities to support quayside and project work. Additional investment in craneage is also planned for the coming year.”
In its 40-year history, Peterson SBS has expanded to become a global business with a strong UK presence. Offering a comprehensive range of safe, reliable and value-added logistics solutions to the energy industry, Peterson SBS has strategic locations in the North Sea sector including major integrated asset bases in Aberdeen and Den Helder and operating centres in Ijmuiden, Shetland, Edzell, Heysham and Great Yarmouth.
Via its international network, which spans 60 countries, the company has delivered services to major oil and gas companies, in countries such as India, Brazil and Qatar.
Looking ahead to 2013, Peterson SBS intends to widen its client base in local and international markets. The company has already secured a number of new clients in Aberdeen and major tenders have been submitted for the provision of supply base and decommissioning services in the North Sea region. Logistics support will be a key area for the company, with large projects in the pipeline.
Ann continues, “Next year is on track to be as strong as this year, delivery of logistics support, both on an operational level and on a project basis will be a major focus for us, along with decommissioning. We have extensive experience in this area following the successful completion of two major projects for major oil and gas operators and our established track record in the UK will put us in an ideal position to deliver upcoming work. There are immediate plans to remove substantial tonnage from the North Sea in the next five to 10 years, and securing this work would result in the creation of jobs in the Shetland area, whilst generating additional income for the local economy.”
