Hess has struck oil with its Pecan-1 exploration well drilled on the Deepwater Tano/Cape Three Points licence offshore Ghana.
The deepwater discovery well was drilled to a total depth of 4,700m (15,420ft) using the drillship Stena DrillMax. Hess said the well encountered nearly 75m (245 net ft) of oil pay in two separate Turonian intervals.
The well was extensively tested, including drilling a sidetrack to obtain bypass cores, prior to being suspended. It is Hess’ fifth discovery on the block and follows the previously announced Almond, Beech, Hickory North and Paradise finds.
