Aberdeen firm Spex Group has appointed north-east entrepreneur Jamie Oag as its first chief executive.
Mr Oag founded Granite City-based oil and gas service company Optima before selling the business to Tetra for at least £40million in 2012.
He has a string of investments in hi-tech businesses in the Scottish energy sector and is majority shareholder of Spex, which was formed in 2009 as a specialist provider of explosive services to the oil and gas industry.
Spex, which was previously led by managing director John Fox, now a divisional MD, has been diversifying into other engineering services.
He said: “My role . . .will be to oversee existing projects to completion and then lead the commercialisation of these technologies, so Spex can offer them to the wider market.
“Having these new products in the field will add real value to the Spex brand,” he added.
