Opito, the oil and gas industry’s focal point for skills, learning and workforce development, has appointed Darah Zahran as policy affairs director.
It said the move would enhance collaboration between the North Sea sector, government and education.
Mrs Zahran joins Aberdeen-based Opito with more than 16 years’ experience in skills and energy. She was previously energy partnerships manager for Skills Development Scotland, during which time she engaged with Opito on projects.
Mrs Zahran said: “I have enjoyed a close working relationship with Opito in the past, observing the role it plays in bringing the skills needs of the industry to the fore and ensuring the highest standards of competence in the workplace.
“It is vital that the potential of the oil and gas sector is widely understood by all stakeholders, particularly within government and its agencies, and across the education sector.
“To do this successfully we need to work with the right partners at different levels, including influencing the government’s skills agenda, ensuring that the skills supply available to the industry is relevant and fit for purpose, and providing information about the sector that is current, generates interest and appeals to our future workforce.”
