North-east firm Intelligent Well Controls (IWC) expects its workforce to double within two years amid growing demand for its technology.
IWC, of Portlethen, near Aberdeen, has developed a range of smart intelligent tools for the oil and gas industry.
Michael Sutcliffe, the company’s business development manager, said one of its products – its casing orientation tool (COT) – had recently completed trials and was already attracting strong interest from potential customers.
Technical director Bruce McGarian said: “This is a significant milestone for IWC and proves not only the technology but also the benefits it brings to operators’ complex well operations.”
COT provides orientation assurance for downhole operations offshore, meaning it makes sure other equipment stays in the right place.
IWC was formed in 2009 by its three directors, Mr McGarian, William Brown-Kerr and Syd Fraser. The company is backed financially by venture-capital firm Energy Ventures.
It employs 15 people, but this is expected to grow to about 30 over two years.
Mr Sutcliffe said turnover was “small figures” just now but likely to grow significantly in the coming years as demand for the firm’s products increased.
