Three new reports from the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) contain plenty of questions but no answers on the thorny issue of Scottish independence.
The documents – focusing on energy, Scotland’s role on the international stage and macroeconomic and fiscal sustainability – are the result of 18 months of work aimed at helping SCDI members to assess the “bigger picture” of the country’s current constitutional debate.
Launching the Future Scotland reports, SCDI said they built on its long history of independent analysis and research, adding: “We have undertaken this work on behalf of our members, to inform both their understanding and the wider debate on the key economic issues relating to the debate on Scotland’s constitutional future across three central themes.
“The Future Scotland reports are summaries of a wide body of evidence from many different sources and use this evidence to allow members to ask questions of all sides of the referendum debate.”
Production of the reports, each setting out current UK arrangements and asking a raft of questions about the potential impact of independence, was led by SCDI’s board and informed by steering groups of members.
The documents contain no recommendations and SCDI said their contents were not intended to reflect its own policy.
