Two people have died and a man injured after a heat exchanger accident on a North Sea gas platform off the coast of the Netherlands.
A high-pressure hose broke loose during maintenance work on the L5A platform, 60 miles northwest of Den Helder, a spokesman for the Dutch coastguard said.
The injured man, understood to be a Dutch national, was taken by helicopter to hospital in Leeuwarden. He is reported to be in a stable condition.
The country’s Maritime Police Unit will investigate the cause of the accident.
A GDF Suez spokeswoman told Reuters there had not been a gas explosion but an accident with a heat exchanger, which exploded while being tested under pressure.
The platform has not been evacuated, with the remaining 13 employees on board accounted for, she added.
