Ukraine will design a gas hub for storing European gas supplies on its doorstep, according to reports from the country.
The EU is interested in the development of a gas-energy hub in the country, claims the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Mykola Azarow.
“[It is] recognised that Ukraine is at a crossroads, with a major opportunity to develop beyond its important traditional role as a transit country and also become a gas hub for Eastern Europe due to its conventional and unconventional gas resources, its extensive pipeline network and its important gas storage facilities,” the European Commission said in a statement.
The design of the hub, commissioned by Azarow, is to be completed before the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November this year.
