A crop of sizeable drilling contracts has been awarded over the past few weeks, one of which is for the services of a veteran drillship that was built almost 55 years ago as the cargo vessel Jean Schneider.
First up for mention is a five-wells package of work for the new drillship Ocean Rig Skyros which is currently being completed for Rowan Drilling.
The name of the client oil company has not been disclosed; however the campaign is to be conducted offshore West Africa, it will run for at least 275 days and will add $190million to Ocean Rig’s backlog, which now stands at $5billion.
The Saipem class 10000 vessel is being completed at Samsung in South Korea and is rated from drilling wells to 3,657m (12,000ft) and a total vertical drilling depth of 12,192m (40,000ft).
The contract is expected to start once delivery of the vessel is accomplished, hopefully in October.
Meanwhile, Rowan has also reported a valuable long-term contract for a new-build drillship. The three-year arrangement is with Anadarko and the day-rate is stated to be in the range $606,000-609,000.
The 752m GustoMSC P10000 class Rowan Resolute will also be geared up to working in 3,657m (12,000ft) of water and of drilling wells to a TVD of 12,192m (40,000ft).
It is one of four sisters being constructed for Rowan by Hyundai.
Finally, Aban Offshore has secured a contract for its Aban Ice drillship with ONGC for three years.
This venerable, 183m ship is currently deployed off the west coast of India and is due to shift to the new contract during the final quarter of the current year.
The total value of the contract with ONGC is reported to be about $185million.
