US firm GE Oil and Gas plans to create more than 100 new jobs and further increase production at its subsea manufacturing plant in Montrose.
It is also poised to pump an additional £10million into the site over the next two years.
Rod Christie, subsea systems chief executive, told a gathering of hundreds of clients, workers, family members and invited dignitaries yesterday the company was going to nearly double its recent investment in the facility.
He was speaking as he unveiled the results of this year’s £10.6million expansion of the site at an official opening ceremony attended by Finance Secretary John Swinney. The work has increased GE’s capacity in Montrose by some 40%, allowing output to be increased from 63 to 90 tree valve systems per year.
It is understood further investment will pay for the construction of a new suite of offices at the site, as well as an extension to the factory and new machinery and tooling.
The total workforce is expected to grow to around 250 by 2016, tripling GE’s headcount at Montrose within three years.
Mr Swinney said he was delighted to declare the completed extension open, and thanked GE for its “vote of confidence” in the plant, its people and the opportunities available in the Scottish oil and gas industry.
